If you've been on the hunt for the best Briogeo products, rest assured, they assist nearly every hair need, with dedicated lines for scalp care, curl definition, and damage repair. A Black-owned brand founded by Nancy Twine in 2013, Briogeo was built on the principle that high-performance hair care and naturally-derived ingredients are not mutually exclusive. Every formula is free of sulfates, silicones, parabens, and phthalates, and instead leans on potent blends of plant oils (hey, rosehip and argan), superfruits (banana, coconut, oh my), and science-backed actives such as copper peptides and caffeine. Together, these key ingredients deeply moisturize hair, boost scalp circulation, protect against heat damage, and define curls to perfection.

Why we love it: When hair has been through the wringer, whether from heat, color, chemical treatments, or over-manipulation, the Don't Despair, Repair Deep Conditioning Mask is the kind of intensive reset it needs. The formula, a six-time Allure Readers' Choice Award winner, combines strengthening and moisture for a well-rounded deep treatment. Plant proteins replenish missing keratin molecules to reinforce the hair shaft, while rosehip oil locks in hydration and keeps frizz at bay.
Algae extract delivers a concentrated dose of minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants, and B-vitamins restore body, sheen, and texture to strands dulled by damage. New York-based hairstylist and curl expert Cataanda James specifically steers clients toward Briogeo for this reason, describing them as "those with overly sensitized, dry, and damaged hair needing a formula that replenishes protein in the hair shaft, balances moisture, and protects from future damage,” which is precisely what this mask was designed to do.

“This mask is one I apply to soaking wet hair after shampooing. I use about a golf-ball amount on my whole head. Then, I let it sit for at least 10 minutes. Sometimes I just put a shower cap and let the shower steam work while I shave, body scrub, and wash. Other times, I get out of the shower and sit for an hour for an extra intense treatment, even adding steam or a heated cap.
I remember when I cold-emailed the Briogeo team over a decade ago when I saw the Don't Despair, Repair Mask being used by all my favorite natural hair YouTubers (this was pre-TikTok). Once I got a jar for myself, I was hooked. The slip of this mask is what I love the most. It is one of the best for detangling my 4B coils. It gives off a bit of foam when you first put it in, but that allows hair to slide through a wide-tooth comb. It isn't the most moisturizing mask in my arsenal, but it is the best for detangling.” —Jessica Cruel, editor in chief

Why we love it: A healthy scalp is the foundation of healthy hair, and the Scalp Revival Rosemary Pre-Wash Oil provides a reset ahead of shampooing. One of the star ingredients is rosemary oil, which supports scalp circulation and helps defend against yeast, bacteria, and dandruff. "Excess oil and sebum are often the cause of seborrheic dermatitis, which sometimes shows up as inflammation, scalp sores, or dandruff, and could evolve into more serious scalp conditions if not cared for or treated properly,” says James, who recommends this pre-shampoo oil to avoid said escalation. Binchotan charcoal is also key in expelling excess oil and buildup, setting a clean foundation for every wash.
Bisabolol, a chamomile derivative, helps calm irritation and sensitivity—making the formula gentle enough for even the most reactive scalps—while castor oil replenishes moisture from root to strand. Apply it to dry hair, massage in, and leave on for 10 to 15 minutes (or overnight for deeper results) before rinsing and following with your shampoo of choice.

“I oil my hair once a week in an effort to keep my hair and scalp from looking and feeling fried. This Briogeo product is one of my go-tos for this ritual because of its not-too-viscous texture and precise nozzle. I part my hair, squeeze lines of oil onto my scalp, before massaging it in. Then, I go over my lengths with more oil. After washing, my strands look so shiny and scalp is less flaky.” —Jesa Marie Calaor, senior editor

Why we love it: Dry shampoo got a serious upgrade with the Style & Treat Dry Shampoo Powder Puff. It’s a finely milled, aerosol- and talc-free powder formula that absorbs excess oil at the roots without leaving a trace of white cast or dehydrating the scalp. The custom puff applicator is the real game-changer here, delivering the silky powder directly to the roots for targeted, mess-free blotting. Copper peptides help promote scalp health, while biotin strengthens follicles and improves elasticity over time. A caffeine-based energy complex finishes the formula, stimulating the scalp and, with continued use, providing protection for thicker-looking hair.
It’s available in two shades, a universal translucent and a tinted version for darker hair, and doubles as a root touch-up, disguising grays and filling in sparse areas while it refreshes. A bonus is that the locking top keeps things spill-free when you need a touch-up on the go.

“I like dry shampoo in theory, but in actuality, it feels gritty and grainy and often leaves a white cast, so I end up…preferring to wash my hair—and I hate washing my hair with a capital H. Briogeo's dry shampoo puff has changed my mind. First of all, it comes in a brown-tinted formula that blends in a lot more seamlessly than those that come out white. Not only is the finish nice and airy (once I've raked through my roots), but my scalp actually looks less oily and a little fuller—it's a slight zhuzh, but a zhuzh nonetheless. Lastly, I love how compact and travel-friendly it is—no aerosols or messy loose powder, absolutely no problem!” —Sarah Han, commerce editor

Why we love it: Product buildup is an inevitable side effect of using styling gels and creams, but the Scalp Revival Charcoal & Coconut Oil Micro-Exfoliating Shampoo clears the slate in just a few minutes. Binchotan charcoal draws out impurities, excess oil, and buildup from hair follicles, while microcrystalline cellulose, a plant-based, dissolvable exfoliant, gently loosens flakes and debris.
While you may associate exfoliating shampoos with that dreaded stripping feeling, this formula has coconut oil and bisabolol (a chamomile derivative) to replenish moisture and soothe any potential irritation. But perhaps our favorite addition? A cooling complex of peppermint, spearmint, and tea tree oils refreshes the scalp on contact, reducing itchiness and redness. Use it once a week in place of your regular shampoo, then follow with your conditioner or a deep-conditioning mask on mid-lengths to ends.

“I have an oily, sensitive scalp and deal with bumps/clogged pores often, especially around my hairline. This Briogeo shampoo is the reset my scalp and roots need. I love the texture—it's lightweight and whipped, with little scrub particles that you can feel but aren't too abrasive. As I work it into my roots, I love the gently exfoliating, slightly tingly feel and peppermint scent. It doesn't lather up a ton, but that doesn't mean it isn't working. I've used this on and off for years—once or twice weekly—and it's the scalp scrub I always come back to.” —Sarah Felbin, senior commerce editor

“Briogeo's air-dry cream is one of the few wave enhancers I've tried that doesn't leave my hair with a crunchy feel. In fact, it leaves my usually frizzy strands with a soft, smooth texture that I love running my hands through. This cream turns into a weightless oil as I scrunch it in, so I can pack on product without a greasy texture forming.” —Jennifer Hussein, contributor

“I’m a die-hard wash-n-go girl, so I live and die by air-dry products. This stood out for its ability to keep my flyways in check—even in the dead of summer—and leave my hair soft and bouncy. It actually gave it more volume, which is tough to find among cream-based stylers, and it left zero residue in my hair.” —Deanna Pai, contributing commerce editor

Why we love it: You get volume, hold, and heat protection in a single pump of Briogeo’s Style & Treat Hair Styling Volume Foam. Antioxidant-rich yuzu extract helps maintain your hair's integrity against the elements, while plum oil adds conditioning richness. Farewell Frizz Blow Dry Perfection & Heat Protectant Crème

Why we love it: Frizz can be the downfall of any sleek hairstyle, but the Farewell Frizz Blow Dry Perfection Heat Protectant Cream ties up loose ends—or, well, hairs. This styling cream, a 2025 Readers' Choice Award winner, works by sealing the cuticle with a moisturizing trio of rosehip, argan, and coconut oils to combat humidity and lock in hydration, while minimizing frizz.
James reaches for this cream specifically on her clients with tighter curl patterns, higher density, and longer hair. "The creamy consistency is lightweight, but it provides an effortless slip," she says. "During the blowout stage, my brush glides through the curls from root to tip." The formula also shields strands from heat-styling up to 450°F without leaving a film or coating on the hair. James also notes that with this cream, she doesn't need to crank the heat to its maximum setting to achieve results: "The frizz still remains obsolete even at 350 to 380 degrees."

Why we love it: For limp waves, curls, and coils lacking definition, the Curl Charisma Rice Amino & Shea Curl Defining Conditioner delivers without weighing hair down. Rice amino acids sink into the hair shaft to seal the cuticle and minimize frizz caused by humidity, while tomato fruit ferment and mollis leaf extract work in tandem to ensure hair dries consistently, meaning more uniform, bouncy curl formation. James, who regularly reaches for this conditioner as part of her blowout and silk press routine, praises it for being hydrating without leaving a coating on strands. She also notes it’s best for “high-porosity and frizzy hair, as it defines, encourages curl formation, and combats the frizz." How we test and review products
When Allure tests a product, our editors look at it from every angle in an effort to best serve you. We review ingredients, scrutinize brand claims, and, when necessary, examine peer-reviewed scientific and medical studies. In addition to testing each and every product that's included in each and every review, we rely on experts who shape their fields, including dermatology, cosmetic chemistry, and medicine, to help us vet the ingredients and formulas.
For our list of the best Briogeo products, we considered each product's performance across five primary categories: product ingredients and efficacy, packaging, fragrance, texture, and product wear. Every product was determined to have excelled in each category by our editorial team, which is composed of in-house writers and editors as well as contributors—along with special consideration from board-certified dermatologists. To learn more information on our reporting and testing processes, read our complete reviews process and methodology page.
Our staff and testers
A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.
After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the "best" for people over 50 if the only testers we've solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it’s never been tested on curls? We're proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.
